Expanding Your Photographic Horizons with HDR, Panoramas, and Extended Depth of Field

With Mark Fitzgerald, Certified Photoshop Instructor and Author
Co sponsored by the Bainbridge Island Photo Club and the Northwest Council of Camera Clubs

Saturday, September 24 10a.m.-5p.m. Bainbridge Commons

In this daylong workshop you’ll learn to use Photoshop and Photomatix Pro to create images different than any you’ve created before. You’ll learn three different methods of combining elements from separate photos to create High Dynamic Range (HDR)*, panoramic, and extended depth of focus images.

This is an interactive, hands-on workshop. First you’ll learn the basics with a series of practice files. Then you’ll have the opportunity to go outside and shoot your own project photos. In the afternoon, you’ll have time to process your photos to create your own HDR, panoramas, and extended focus images. By the end of the day you’ll have a whole new set of tools in your photographic toolbox, enabling you to begin seeing the world in new ways.

High Dynamic Range (HDR): A series of exposures is made of a scene in order to capture the complete dynamic range of the scene – from deepest shadow to brightest highlight. Then the individual exposures are merged into a single, high-capacity HDR file that contains the entire tonal range.

Who should come: Any photographer who has basic knowledge of Photoshop and is looking for new ways to create one-of-a-kind images that stand out from the crowd.

What to bring:

  1. A laptop with Photoshop CS4 or CS5 and Photomatix Pro installed and ready to use. (30-day trial versions of both programs are available online)
  2. A dSLR, tripod, and media card reader.
  3. A Brownbag lunch.
